Elise Paget / Parass / Parijs (Place du Tertre) / Parrot

This French born Victorian female artist made a lot of

watercolours in France and Spain. St. John's Gate in

London has been depicted here. St. John's Gate is one

of the few tangible remains from Clerkenwell's monastic 

past. It was built in 1504.  Untill 1870 it was a tavern

but in the 1870's the order of St. John's revived and

aquired the Gate. This is a watercolour with a lot of 

"Dickens" in it.  Most of her works are somewhat small in 

size and a another well known one is St. Pauls Cathedral in 

London. Work on paper. Dimensions: 21 / 27 cm.

The signature has been done in paint so it can't be compared 

with the ones written in pencil. Often qualities and skills

from an artist can be seen in the details: The figures on this

watercolours all have a significant but natural pose. Wether

Elise Pagot was English or French isn't yet clear.

Parass (??)

A nicely done watercolor but who was the artist?

It could have been a nameless street artist most likely

in Paris, we just don't know. We liked the view from

above! Work on paper. Dimensions: 37 / 55 cm.

And here a picture of the signature but what does it say?

Parass - Darass and even the second prefix "a" could

be another one. Additional information is most welcome!

Parijs (Place du Tertre)

Probably made by an anonymus streetartist and a 

lot of collectors mostly are not interested but the 

cosiness is there as are the vivid colours.

Work on paper. Dimensions: 27 / 35 cm.

As a spectator you only need a few lines to know what

is ment by the artist. That is the case here and that's

what makes it tensive. Probably ink in combination 

with watercolour techniques have been used.

A strange move on this work is the title "Place Tertre'

as it should have been: "Place du Tertre". Maybe an

artist from a foreign country that wasn't aware about

the exact name of this well known place.
