Bob Stikkers / Victor Surbek / Xavier Swolfs / Imre Szantho

This mixed technique work is made by Belgium based artist
Bob Stikkers. For his "Vrijgezellenmachine" he used water-
color together with Acryl paint and most likely ink. Being
graphically oriented he made this work appealing to a
wider audience by the use of this fine colour palette.
Work on paper. Dimensions:  20 / 30 cm.

It is obvious that he used the sex symbol that stands
for a male as can be seen on the arrow in this detail.

A kind of a "hidden" Phallus symbol is another detail.

We first thought it not to be signed on the front
but careful examination learned us otherwise.
It says: B. Stikkers "93 (made in 1993)

Victor Surbek ( 1885 - 1975 )

At first we thought this to be a litho but when taking
it out of its' encadrement we found out that there were
pencil strikes and that made us anxious to do a further
experiment. With a cotton swab we tried out the ink
(or watercolor paint) wether if it would solve and it
did as well as the black ink strikes. This artist is one
of the better known ones in Switzerland.

Surbek signed in paint and with pencil. The latter mostly
with his lithographical work and some watercolors. It
will be no surprise that these two differ from each other.
Depicted here is his view from his workplace, situated
at the lake Bringer. He had his workshop in the village
of Iseltwald. Therefore this watercolor has more than
one of the others as it is part of the painters' history.

The accuracy in putting away the human figures can be
studied here.

The paper (Ingres) has been sticked on cardboard.
Most likely done by the artist to prevent any warping
when working with wet techniques.

In another watercolor the same pencil strikes are visible
and even a certain kind of color setting which can be
seen as remarkable for this artist.

Xavier Swolfs

This Belgium based painter and watercolorist has a
significant reputation in the field of watercolors. This
watercolor has been used for an exposition about this
technique. Besides his skills as a water colorist the
composition is simply beautiful combining music
from this ballet with a kind of abstract approach next
to the figurative parts. Work on paper.
Dimensions: 55 / 74 cm.

The second work seems to be smaller but in fact it is not!
Also in a very good condition it depicts a whole orchestra.
Probably Xavier Swolfs used mixed techniques as the
printed music used in this work has been added with
another technique. Work on paper. Dimensions: 70 / 100.

His most recent way of signing his works.

Presented here is an earlier work by this Belgium
based artist. The way he depicts the trees is allready
there. He claims it to be made about 40 years ago.
In recent times he mixes a certain kind of illustrating
techniques with reality what makes his unique style.
Work on Paper. Dimensions: 35 / 45 cm.

A nice aquarel for the garden and flower lovers!

Imre Szantho

The signature was a bit of a puzzle for us but someone
found out how to read it: It says "Szantho". Now there
is a famous paintress called Maria Szantho but her works
have a much more realistic approach. It appears to be
Imre Szantho not to be confused with Imre von Szantho
who was a famous photographer.

And we found a second work on the internet with a
comparable signature. Imre Szantho was born in 1925
and died in 1998. He was a Hungarian.
