Carl Mell - Karl Hjalmar Börje Mell ( 1851 - 1936 )

Carl Mell made a lot of city views from Salzburg, Austria.
He did this in the watercolour technique and especially
in this one he excells. The autumn colours of the trees
and the dampening around the cathedral towers is a
great plus to our opinion. Work on paper. Dimensions:
19 / 32 cm. He felt comfortable with these dimensions.

His signature is easy to read luckily. Carl or Karl Mell
lived from 1851 until 1936 and thus became quite old.
The university of Salzburg has been opened in 1899.
This watercolour shows the backside of the Pfeifergasse.
Today this side is located in Basteigasse. Today the point
where the artist painted this view is located anywhere in
the building of die university of Salzburg (Rudolfskai 42).
This building was opened in 1899 as Gewerbeschule der
Stadt Salzburg. So this watercolour is made before 1899.
Many thanks to the Salzburg Information centre for
this addition!
