Archibald Thorburn / Rene Timmermans / Tonet Timmermans / Louis Titz / Jan Toorop / H.J. van Trigt

This small watercolor shows the skills this Englishman
has and why he is still being seen as one of the greatest
animal painters of his era. Work on paper. Dimensions:
4,5 / 7 inch. The condition is remarkable!

The refined details are speaking for themselves.

The colors in their variety do add to the
unique qualities of this artist.

The original Holland & Holland label that prooves
its' originality. "Study of a Grouse".

This watercolor of a female snew displays his working
in one spot of watercolor paint. One can find this detail
more often in his watercolors. 7,5 / 5,5 inch.

This drawing of a Bustard is another prove of his
abilities. Work on paper. Dimensions 4,5 / 5,75 inch

The encadrement is most likely done at Holland and Holland.
Nice passe partout and very good condition.

Another nice drawing that shows his love for nature:
The Golden Eye duck in different settings. Dimensions:

A nice detail and a possibilty to observe the markings
done by the artist to possibly have it filled in later.

Study of a flying Grouse. Dimensions: 4,5 / 4,5 inch.

In a gold painted encadrement, a nice passe partout
and of course the original Holland & Holland label.
Very good condition.

Flying Mallard. Dimensions: 6 / 11,2 inch.

The drawing doen't fit that beautiful in its'
encadrement but condition is again very
good and the original Holland & Holland
label is there as well.

British birds. Monogrammed. Dimensions: 3,25 / 5,25

This is the original drawing for Archibald Thorburn's
"British Birds" 1925 / 1926, plate 157. It has been
monogrammed and dated by the artist being a sign
of more importance. Very good condition.

Teal and Bullrushes. Dimensions: 4 / 6 inch.
In fact a lovely scenery, somewhat more
surrounded.

Again the original Holland & Holland label on
the back. All written in ink by the same person!
Very good condition. Undamaged encadrement
but in fact not that appropriate to our believe.

Woodcock. Work on paper. Dimensions: 3,5 / 5 inch.
All these watercolors and drawings are provided with
the Holland & Holland which attests their originality.
Bonhams even gives this label as a provenance.
All filled in in ink and most likely by the same person.

The same remark can be made regarding the encadrement.
Not that suited for a pencil drawing like this. A simple
passe partout as well but condition is very good again.
In fact there can't be made any remarks regarding moisture
damage, strange spots, fainted drawing lines or tears in
the paper. What is under the passe partouts we don't
know. We wanted the drawings to be original coming
from Holland and Holland. Bonhams even gives
them as a provenance.

Rene Timmermans.

Allways a lovely subject: People on a terrace. The
expression of the people on this watercolor simply
is very good as is the expression of the chairs exposed.
A minor for me is the sidewalk that seems to be
too steep. Work on paper. Dimensions: 33 / 50 cm.

It is obvious that the surname starts with an "R" and
the family name should be "Timmermans". Little
can be found about this Belgian artist though the
Blouin Art Sales Index eposes a work sold in Antwerp
in 1999 for 1747 USD most likely an oli on canvas.

Tonet Timmermans

This artiste followed her father, Felix Timmermans in
her career and mostly worked in a naive style and
in fact they do resemble the works of Raoul Dufy.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 17 / 22 cm.

And het signature of course which is spot on. She
also worked for advertisement companies and as a book
illustrator.

Louis Titz

A very gifted painter, Titz exceeds herein a watercolor
done with a lot of craftsmanship. The seventy should
be situated somewhere in Northern Italy or Autriche.

Here you are able to study some elements in this work.

And the typical wooden houses on this watercolor.

The execution of the roof (on the right) can be studied here.

And of course his signature. a bot of an "earlier'  work.

Jan Toorop

Maybe one of the drawings made by Jan Toorop
during his Domburg period. Jan Toorop is one
of the most important figures in Symbolism in the
Netherlands but most people are not aware about the
fact that he worked realistic, impressionistic and even
made works in the so well known pointillism style.
Work on paper: Dimensions: 26,5 - 37 cm.

Presented here is the signature found on the drawing here
above. Toorop mostly dated his works with the addition of
the year. However there are, mostly simple sketches, non
dated works from his hand as well. This work could be
a study for a later work to be executed in oil on canvas.
In sketches like this he more than often made remarks
about a later execution in oil as colour remarks etc.

Dune landscape watercolour of which this dutch
artist made more of at the end of his life. It was part of
a map with more remarkable works from a smaller
museum in Antwerp e.g. a Ferdinand de Braeckeleer
original litho. Work on paper. Dimensions: 25 / 35 cm.
