A somewhat bigger watercolour from Jean van Nieuwenhuyse.
This painter worked in different countries and one of his more
remarkable works he made in Istanbul. That was an oil on
canvas. Depicted here is Amsterdam the Oude Turfmarkt.
The boat that crosses the canals is said to be from shipping
company "Kooy" at the corner of the Langebrugsteeg.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 45 / 54 cm.
And of course the artists' signature that at first glance
appears to be the prefix "T". As for the dimensions of
his watercolours: Most of his works indeed do have
exact the same dimensions. Probably from a sketchpad.
Emile Noirot (1853 - 1924)
A nice watercolor from this Frenchman though
he is more known as an "oil on canvas" painter.
A bit hard to read but the specific way he puts his signature
obviously is there. Moreover, it is dated as well.
His watercolors can't be found that much on the internet
but the sort of "wild: strikes of paint behind the tranches
can be seen as a sort of trademark.
Of course other specific ways of treating subjects like
these have been compared with his works on canvas.
Sticked to a piece of cardboard but that immediately
tells you the origin and age of this work is correct.
