Basar / Alfred Bastien

At first glance these colours appear to be fainted. However by 

carefully inspecting the trees on the left this cannot be the case.

I've added this watercolour as the mountain "Salak"(on western

Java) has been done with great craftsmanship! Work on

paper. Dimensions: 30 / 40 cm.

And of course his signature and something about Basar:

In 1925 Basar moved to Jakarta where he soon became a 

most accomplished panoramic painter and was highly 

appreciated by the foreigners and the well to do colonial 

citizens. His paintings were collected by many 
Europeans and some were brought overseas as a 
souvenir to remember the beauty of the fabulous 
Eastern world they have ever visited.

Bastien signed and dated this work so it has to be

from 29th of january 1940. Alfred Bastien then was

67 years old. He died in 1955 in Ukkel (Belgium)
