Bosanquet (active period1854 - 1869) / John Boydell / Carl Brenders

Quite old, this English watercolour with some nice details.
Work on paper. Dimensions 30 / 40 cm.

We found the active period of this painter but this one is
dated 1874. He probably was longer active!

For those who want to see some auction results:

John Boydell

John Boydell was an English painter and engraver and
a lot of prints made by him can still be found on the internet.
However I can represent here one of my eldest watercolours
as John Boydell lived from 1719 untill 1804.
His watercolours seems to be more rare as nothing
can be found on the internet. There is a company
that has an art gallery by the name Boydell as one
of his ancestors started it a long time ago.
The work itself has been done on a thicker piece
of cardboard. A piece of handmade watercolour
paper would have been easier to identify as being
that old. Dimensions: 27 / 46 cm.

Carl Brenders ( 1937 -

Carl Brenders (Belgium) is an international recognized
wildlife painter known for his exceptionally faithful and
powerful rendition of nature. Born in Wilrijk (Belgium)
Carl first studied at the fine Arts Academy in Antwerp
and later in Berchem. He made his debut in the art world
as an illustrator for well-established European publishing
companies. His illustrations of wildlife for the book series
"La vie secrete des Betes" (Hachette) were later published
in English as  Nature's Hidden World. These books already
show what was to become Carl's trademark: The accurate
capturing of his subjects and their habitat.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 20 / 26 cm.

On this detailed piece of this artwork one is able to study his
accurancy  here. Not only does this counts for birds, also
bears, wolves, foxes and other animals are in his pocket.
The same thing counts for the environment around the
actual subject.

Presented here is his signature which is spot on as the photo
of the squirrel painting here beyond proves. He works with
gouache in combination with watercolor and we think that he's
using photo's to start with but to be honest: We're not sure.

By clicking on this picture you are able to enlarge
this painting and see his signature in the lower middle.

Presented here is a more readable example from his
signature.

In fact not a genuine watercolor but based on one, this
litho shows again the skills of Carl Brenders. The back
has been provided with a certificate of authenticity
being Artist Proof: 7 out of 36.

And some details to examine the different parts more
carefully. It is unknown to me wether if Brenders uses
pictures taken before or not.

The signature has been written in pencil as hads been
done with the numbered edition of this work.

And his signature of course which differs from the ones
given here above but absolutely are genuine.
