Vaas / Bertha Valkenburg / Antonio de Velez / Herman Verbaere / Karel Verbruggen

Vaas (anoniem)

Though anonymous this watercolour keeps
on drawing my attention. It looks detailed
but careful examination proofs otherwise.
The back shows old paper so I think it to be
from the beginning of the 20th century.
Work on paper. Dimensions 40 / 50 cm.

Bertha Valkenburg

We bought this watercolour but at first glance we
thought it to be a bit dull. However by cleaning
the protecting glass the colours were forceful as if it has
been made only yesterday. Work on paper.
Dimensions: 37 / 52 cm.

This dutch paintress lived from 1862 - 1929 so it is
special that the colours have remained the way it was ment.

Antonio de Velez 1905 - 1969

A nice watercolour by this Spanish artist who
probably is depicting the harbour of Mallorca.
In a flush and quick style the moods are expressed
here. work on paper. Dimensions; 35 / 45 cm.

Sometimes this artist simply signed his work with Velez
and on other occasions it was A. de Velez or Antonio
de Velez. However his style is allways recognizable.

Interesting in this watercolour is to observate the identical
way he treats the walls of the buildings and the shadows.

Herman Verbaere

Karel Verbruggen (1871 - 1931)

A rather big drawing of Karel Verbruggen, an artist
that kept on making drawings and watercolours during
his lifetime. Highly influenced by Isaac Israels and George
Breitner who lived in the same period. Karel Verbruggen
also worked in Paris as much of the more renowned
artists of that time did as impressionism was at stake
there! The rough approach is typical for this style.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 31 / 41 cm.

Very little can be found about this artist so here's
his signature. It was known that he dated his works
but besides that you are able to see some different
coloured crayon traces above his signature.

Firmin Verhevick ( 1874 - 1962 )

This watercolour is made by the Belgium artist Firmin Verhevick.
The use of colours and subjects allways makes him easily
distinguishable. Work on paper. Dimensions: 30 - 40 cm.

Presented here is a watercolor of the city of Laken.
The church in the background is the Maria church.

With a lot of melacholism in it, Verhevick always presents his
works. His works of Venice will always remain the top of
his watercolors. Work on paper. Dimensions: 26 / 37 cm.
.

We were able to obtain this one at the same time: Huy and
the exact place is written under the signature as is the date
of this watercolor. Work on paper: Dimensions: 25 / 35 cm.

The signature Verhevick is known for is presented on
the second work: written with in watercolor paint.
Here the signature has been placed in ink as is the
information underneath it. He made this watercolor
being 24 years old.
