Eugene Arc / Georges Audureau

To make it look like a real fountain and streetlights around
it the artist seemed to have it made in an effortless and
quick way. Full of craftsmanship anyway. The prefix
of his family name could be part of a discussion here but
we have obtained another work by the same artist on
which the name is better readable. Work on paper.
Dimensions: 25 / 34 cm.

The signature that seems to say: Eugen(e) Arc.

There were different watercolourists busy in  Belgium
under the name Allard. On the web you can find a fine
example of an oriental art watercolour from the hand of
Charles Allard. Work on Paper. Dimensions: 25 / 35 cm.

Georges Audureau (1896 - 1986)

We could call it one of the many Paris streetscenes he
made with the watercolor technique but for me this is
one of his better ones to my opinion. Work on paper.
Dimensions: 23 / 30 cm.

This watercolour was labelled "Atelier 5 J. Landy"
but luckily we found the name of the artist once we
removed the label from the back as on the reverse
we found the name George Audureau. The signature
found on this watercolor matches the ones we found
on the internet. Often estimated between 200 / 400
Euro's though there are a lot of prints around so
beware of that.

The way it was encadred can be studied here:
Just sticked on a piece of cardboard and a simple
line drawed around it. Contrary to his more popular
tourist works, the colors are not that present in
this watercolor but we liked it the way he did
it anyway..

When comparing it with his signature we do not
think he signed the label himself here as the prefix
"U" has been interpreted wrongly.

The label on the back already was a direction to make
a better search for the real artist but the former owner
probably never made an attempt to find out more
about this work of art.

Charles Allard / Jo De Blieck

Strangely enough this work has been signed twice: Here is an example
of the right lower end corner signature that has a different letter "A".

Jo De Blieck

In fact this artist has specialized himself more into
sculptures and sometimes works on paper are the first
finger exercises to a new sculture in that sense. This
is a rather big work called: " Whirl".

As it is not my style to bring in his sculptures as this Blog
has been dedicated to watercolours and drawings, I will not
not present his sculptures here but they are worth every
observation! Work on paper. Dimensions: 70 / 90cm.

Augusto ( ? )

A nice watercolour that at first sight seems to be
meticulously done but in fact the approach is
much "rougher" by careful observation but
the result remains!

Inevitable is the Gondolier with his gondola.

And of course the richly ornamented buildings.

The signature which shows us the name Augusto and
most likely it is the family name of this artist but so
many artists are called Augusto.....

Carmen Del Berro / Bir / Colette Bitker

Carmen Del Berro

A very lush done work of the Spanish artiste who made a lot
of more fine watercolors and oil paintings. This is definitely
an earlier one but absolutely from her hand.

And of course the signature presented
here that normally is better readable!

Bir.

The signature of this work does not explain
anything about the artist. It simply says: Bir.
Work on paper. Dimensions 30 / 40 cm.

Colette Bitker ( 1929 -

This piece in fact merely is a watercolor though the artist
provided it with some extra accents in chalk. She is
living in Belgium (Brussels) but was born in Paris.

It was a kind of subtlety that catched our attention and
that element in fact is always present in her works.

She simply signs with "Bitker" and besides watercolors she
did crayons and litho's as well. Work on paper. Dimensions:
38 / 50 cm.

Eugene Francois de Block ( 1812 - 1893 ) / Rik Blomme

There seems to be an "Escalier"  in Rochefort which was
the inspiration for this artist to make this watercolor. Though
it is a nice watercolor it doesn't has the top qualities that might
be expected from this artist to our believe. Work on paper.
Dimensions: 28 / 45 cm.

This artist made several important works in his life. That's why we
think this to be a little more mediocre. The signature however is
spot on and a similar signature  can even be found on Wikipedia.

Rik Blomme

Belgium artists always seems to have a bit more extreme
ideas about how to express their ideas. It can give us another
way of looking at things common to us. Work on paper.
Dimensions 35 / 70 cm.

At first we thought it not to be signed but just above
the encadrement we found his signature!

And the mouth of course that attracts attention.

Hermann Baumeister (1867 - 1904) /Jo DeBlieck ( 1942 -

A watercolour from this German artist that only had a short
life span. Probably made in the 19th century and therefore it
is surprising that it is still fresh to these days. Most likely
an Italian garden with a manor house is depicted here.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 38 / 52 cm.

Contratry to his abilities with oil on canvas we think his
technique in watercolour is more outstanding. The best
selling result indeed was a watercolour auctioned at
Christies (Kensington) Result about 2200 Euro's.

Some details: as the light appears to come somewhat from the
back / left, the cypress trees glow up dark. The roofs have
been painstakingly done.

His signature is very well readable but people always like
to compare it on different works, therefore presented here.

Jo DeBlieck

In fact in the first place a sculptor but besides that a gifted
painter as well. Fulfilled his studies in Florenc. He has been
mentioned in the Paul Piron as a painter who was close
associated with lyrical abstraction. He was a professor
at St' Lucas in Brussels and was later a teacher at the
Highschool in Anderlecht (near Brussels)
Work on Paper. Dimensions: 53 / 70 cm.

And his signature of course is presented here as it
is obvious at the moment you are aware what to read
but before that…..  made in 1987. We're going to
give it a try to get in touch with him! My wife loves it!

Roger Baert

A work done in color pencil what gives
the impression that this artist later must
have been working abstract

Basar / Alfred Bastien

At first glance these colours appear to be fainted. However by
carefully inspecting the trees on the left this cannot be the case.
I've added this watercolour as the mountain "Salak"(on western
Java) has been done with great craftsmanship! Work on
paper. Dimensions: 30 / 40 cm.

And of course his signature and something about Basar:
In 1925 Basar moved to Jakarta where he soon became a
most accomplished panoramic painter and was highly
appreciated by the foreigners and the well to do colonial
citizens. His paintings were collected by many
Europeans and some were brought overseas as a
souvenir to remember the beauty of the fabulous
Eastern world they have ever visited.

Alfred Bastien

A Gouache / Watercolor by this well known Belgium artist.
There is a lot tot discover here, e.g. the birds on the branch
in the foreground. Work on paper. Dimensions: 27 / 35 cm.

A detail of this work.

Bastien signed and dated this work so it has to be
from 29th of january 1940. Alfred Bastien then was
67 years old. He died in 1955 in Ukkel (Belgium)

Henryk Berlewi / John E. Bosanquet

John E. Bosanquet

A genuine watercolour made by the irish painter John
E. Bosanquet. This one dates from 1874 so it has to be
from the father, not the son John Claude as he was
born in 1870. He later also became a gifted water-
colourist. Work on paper. Dimensions: 22,5 / 38,5 cm.

Presented here are some details. Careful examination learns
that people's suggestions play an important role.

Leaves nearby and  just more in the background and the
way Bosanquet depicts them.

What has to be presented here is a rapid in the river.
It could have been Kilmarnock. We have to investigate.

Jo DeBlieck / Eugene Francois de Block
